This is a new development; it looks like Laphroaig is now limiting purchase quantities in their online shop:
The measure, probably put in place to reduce the effects of whiskey flippers and resellers, only appears to target their cask-strength limited release series, of which you are allowed a maximum quantity of three bottles.
As a fan and longtime drinker of Laphroaig, this won’t personally affect me too much, as I tend to only buy 2/3 at a time, but it might make it harder to buy Laphroaig internationally for splits with friends in countries like Japan with less-than-stellar distribution.
