Arran 20 Year Old Brodick Bay / 49.8%
Tasted neat
The Arran Brodick Bay is volume one in their 4-bottle “Explorer’s Collection”. With 9,000 bottles, it’s a pretty big release, and it comes in a stunningly pretty tin. The barrel makeup is:
matured in both Bourbon Barrels and Sherry Hogsheads before being finished in Oloroso Sherry Butts sourced directly from Bodegas Tradicion in Jerez de la Frontera, Spain.
- Color: russet (1.3)
- Nose: spice, tobacco, some peat, marmalade, gummy worms, and cinnamon
- Taste: cherries, vanilla cream, dry oak, sherry, preserved limes, salt, and iodine
- Finish: medium; some smoke and toffee
This is quite interesting, complex, and rich; it’s not full-on peaty, there’s quite a lot going on in various layers across the tongue. The texture feels a wee bit thinner than I’d like, but overall, a very nice dram.
